Temüjin| Khan
Mongolia
Tell us a bit about your character. Doesn’t have to be too long, just giving a general idea
Temüjin grew up on the steppes fighting the elements and his brother steppe peoples. He was alone until Genghis Khan tutored him and showed him his true potential. He is wistful for his old days of empire, and often dreams of reclaiming it, but usually refuses to let his former glory diminish his present existence, and sometimes wishes people would just forget his past deeds and leave him alone. He lives a simple nomadic life, tending to his herds, hunting with his eagle Kei, playing his morin khuur, in general trying to stay out of trouble with the more powerful nations.
Temüjin is quite intelligent and cunning, although this doesn’t always show as he can appear uncultured, ignorant of other nations’ lifestyles and of modern technology. He learns quickly, however, and can often make connections other people can’t. He often looks down upon other people as “weak”, despising their easier lifestyles and upbringings. He takes great pride in his accomplishments and way of life.
How much do you know about their history? Just a couple of paragraphs. Not too much detail~!
Steppe tribes of Central Asia have been influential throughout history, posing a potential threat to China in particular, although sometimes groups would be forced to migrate (such as the Huns, who ravaged Europe under the leadership of Atilla). China realized the potential of these scattered nomads, and played them against each other with diplomacy and bribes, causing them to fight themselves instead of unifying to work against “civilization”.
But this all changed in 1190, when Genghis Khan became ruler of all the steppe peoples. He had reorganized the political landscape of the steppe, taking in defeated clans instead of raiding them, and creating new loyalty bases, created from common nationality, and merit, instead of family ties. He gave the steppe peoples an external purpose to keep them from fighting themselves, and through tactical genius led his people to conquer China, Central Asia, Russia, and the Middle East to create one of the largest empires the world has ever seen, only surpassed slightly by the much later British Empire.
This would not last long past Genghis’s death, however. He split the empire among his sons, who were quarrelous, and not good rulers or military leaders, having been brought up decadently. The empire eventually collapsed from internal struggles, eventually leaving only modern Mongolia, where many of the people still lead a traditional nomadic lifestyle
What pairings are you willing to RP? Anything that makes sense to me, but nothing comes right to mind.
What genres would you RP? Angst? Fluff? Mostly anything?
Just put a sample RP here please~ Doesn’t have to be from an actual RP, just make it up on the spot
Temüjin stopped suddenly, putting an end to the flowing music he had been playing from his morin khuur. His trained golden eagle had become agitated, and was flapping her wings around, attempting to escape the tether that bound her to her perch.
“What is it, Kei? You just hunted a few hours ago.”
Temüjin frowned. The bird was not usually skittish, particularly while he played his music to honor the steppes. He scanned the horizon, but even from atop this hill he could not see any sign or warning of danger. Still, though his senses were better than those of foreigners, animals had even better senses, Kei having about the best he knew. She certainly knew something he didn’t. He untied her harness and sent her off.
“Go then, find whatever is bothering you. Bring me back something so that I may identify the trouble”
The most likely scenario was that he had unwanted visitors. Genghis had brought him glory, but also many enemies. Russia and China pestered him all the time, now that their immense agriculture-based populations had managed to overpower him. And many other nations he had unified in his glorious empire resented the gifts he had given them, and sought vengeance where Temüjin believed none was appropriate. If anything, they should be thanking him. The Pax Mongolica had opened unprecedented trade between east and west, in particular the inspiration for western innovations such as gunpowder and the printing press, things already common in the East. It was his campaigns that lead to a unified China and a unified Russia- without him, they would still be petty provinces.
But he no longer had the strength to hold off the other nations, to teach them their manners and his superior way of life. He had been weakening ever since Genghis had left him. Everyone left. His brother tribes of the steppes were gone now, unified under Genghis’s banner. Even his treacherous offspring, Golden Horde and Ilkhanate had left him, only to slowly disappear into nothingness.
Temüjin did not find it difficult to return to the present. The present was the most crucial… the present was what determined his survival on the harsh steppes, beset by enemies. He packed his ger and attatched it to a team of horses. He mounted another horse and drew his bow. Depending on the news Kei brought him, he would have to fight, or more likely in this new, powerful “civilized” world, flee. The decision would have to be quick, and it was possible he would not be able to wait for his bird- if she was still alive she’d find him sooner or later. The steppes were still vast enough, he could find new pastures for his herds, and hope the intruders had the sense to leave. Even Russians had a difficult time dealing with the harsh extremes of the steppe’s climate….
