Tell us a bit about your character. Doesn’t have to be too long, just giving a general idea
Pietro is another descendent of the Roman Empire, like Lovino and Feliciano, but considers himself an older brother, above them due to his religious influence, and the fact that his house is inside the city of Rome itself.
Pietro is a devout Catholic, and is completely devoted to his boss (the Pope). Because of his faith, he can often be difficult to be around: He likes bossing the other Catholic nations around, and harasses everyone else, trying to convert them. He does want to do good in the world, however, and has very strong morals. His inflated ego and desire for power often distract him, but he will try to help other people- sometimes whether they want it or not. Due to his religious conviction, he will sometimes be somewhat aloof and ignore current events if he thinks they mean nothing in the greater scheme of things- he doesn’t particularly care what happens to the other nations as long as he feels their souls are safe.
How much do you know about their history? Just a couple of paragraphs. Not too much detail~!
The Vatican has the smallest population of any country in the world. It is located within the city of Rome, and is the seat of the Papacy.
The Pope is considered a successor to St. Peter, who is considered the first Pope despite never having actually held the title. The Pope is actually the Bishop of Rome, and was originally equal in Christianity to the Patriarchs of Constantinople, Antioch, Alexandria, and Jerusalem (These five were known collectively as the Pentarchy). The Pope truly became powerful when the Great Schism of 1054 occurred in Christianity, splitting it into Eastern Orthodoxy and Western Catholicism- the Pope was now the head of the Western Church. Leading up to this period, frequent donations of land to the Papacy from the pious and wealthy increased the dominions of the Church, leading eventually to the formation of the Papal States. The Pope was the head of an actual nation, in addition to all Catholics. From 1305 to 1378 the Papacy was moved to Avignon, controlled by the French in what was called the “Babylonian Captivity”. Many of these Popes were considered false, as there were sometimes a Pope in Avignon and Rome. The Papacy lost a lot of influence with the rise of Protestant Christian denominations during the Reformation following Martin Luther’s 95-Theses in 1517. Italian nationalism led to the creation of a unified Italy in 1870, dissolving the Papal States.
Vatican City was created as an independent nation within Rome in the Lateran Treaty of 1929. During World War II Vatican City itself was never occupied by the Axis or Allies, even though both had occupied Rome at different points. The Pope today still makes decisions that impact Catholics everywhere.
(That enough history? One could really go on forever with this one… I think I got the basics though)
What pairings are you willing to RP?
*glances around* A member of the cloth? In a "pairing"? God forbid.
What genres would you RP? Angst? Fluff?
Eh, mostly anything I guess, nothing sketchy though.
Just put a sample RP here please~ Doesn’t have to be from an actual RP, just make it up on the spot
Pietro shook his head as he looked down upon the city of Rome, where the Axis and Allied Powers where fighting. They thought their struggle was the most important thing in the world, but to Pietro it was just another war, causing needless death, suffering, and damnation. He had tried to stop them, but of course they wouldn’t listen. Now all he could do is stress his neutrality, at the request of his Holiness.
Bombers roared overhead, and Pietro cringed and prayed- surely neither side had turned back on their promise not to bomb the city? He opened his eyes when no explosions occurred. The sky was raining paper. Pietro absentmindedly snatched one of the papers as they fell past him. It was in English, some sort of propaganda pamphlet. He dropped it, letting it continue its fall. There was so much pressure to take a side- but if he did he would surely be destroyed. What did the Germans care what the Pope said anymore? Or the English for that matter? Sure, there were still Catholics in those nations, but for the most part, his Holiness didn’t have much sway over the world as he once did.
Pietro watched as some Allied prisoners-of-war, probably escaped from or released by the Italians, tried to get past the Papal Swiss Guard into the sanctuary that was the Vatican. His heart went out to those men, probably weary of this war as he was, and wished that he could help them, but he HAD to remain neutral in this conflict. The most he could do right now was pray for them, and hope that they were recaptured, not killed, or had the sense to return to the advancing Allied army.
He turned his back on the scene, and retreated into a chapel to pray in. Let them fight their petty wars for worldly power. Pietro knew from whence the true power in this world came.
