Pietro walked through the heavy rain, covered in a large cloak that concealed his priestly garb. The garment only partially succeeded in keeping him dry, but at least maintained his anonymity... he had decided to travel incognito, knowing that Catholicism was not always safe in the predominantly Protestant Kingdom of Great Britain.
But it would soon be safe to throw off his disguise, whenever he arrived somewhere dry, for he was now in the isle of Ireland, where his Church was still strong. Indeed, the purpose of his visit was to pay a visit to Sister Deirdre. He had of late been concerned for the loyal Catholic, as she was becoming closer to her brother, Arthur. He had even heard rumors of a union, a Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. If this were true, the nations were surely not equal partners... For as far as he could tell, all the English colonies were being brought up Protestant.
He finally walked up the small pathway that led to Deirdre's cottage, and knocked on the door. He really hoped that she was home, for if the rumors were true, she could already be working at Arthur's house.
